Somnus Quintet is a Sydney-based chamber group consisting of 5 friends who share a love for music and Japanese culture. We specialise in Japanese film and anime scores, video game soundtracks, and pop music, meeting up weekly to practice and arrange our own music.
Formed in 2018 as a string quartet by members of Kuringai Youth Orchestra, we quickly grew to become a piano quintet to better accommodate the types of music we wanted to perform.
Our debut performance was at SMASH! 2019 and we have performed at every SMASH! since, as well as at Madman Anime Festival Sydney in 2020 and J-Fest Australia in 2025. We also participated in our first collaborative performance “Memories of Spring” in 2024 alongside Sunset Morioh and KiZUNA.
Somnus Quintet were also the founders of JAM Fest Sydney, a Japanese and anime music festival that premiered in 2023, now run as a non-for-profit association by volunteers.
